Soap has always been considered an essential ingredient in the formulation of our hygiene products. However, for several years it has been at the heart of debates and is no longer so well regarded by cosmetics and hygiene experts. In this article, we will see why soap should be avoided and why soap-free shower gels should be preferred.

THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SOAP ON THE SKIN

Let's first start by defining the ingredients and how soap is made. It is a mixture of chemical and natural ingredients . It must contain a fatty material , such as animal or vegetable fat and caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) which is a chemical compound. Everything is then saponified hot or cold.

Soap is therefore a synthetic ingredient , which can pose a problem for our health and that of the environment. This mixture, which is harmful to the skin, particularly because of the caustic soda, does more than clean it, it strips it.

Thus, there arise two major problems with the use of soap-based products.

  • It damages the hydrolipidic film which is the protective barrier of the epidermis. Damaged, the hydrolipidic film is therefore less effective against external aggressions.

  • It has a Ph of around 10 when the skin has a Ph which varies between 4 and 7 (depending on the type and area of the skin). Thus, the pH of the soap unbalances that of the skin which is weakened and dried out.

THE BENEFITS OF SOAP-FREE SHOWER GELS

There are alternatives that are more respectful for your skin. Soap-free shower gels are a good way to clean your skin while protecting it. The latter being made from gentle and natural surfactants, are just as effective as soap but more respectful of the balance of the epidermis. Cleansing your skin with a soap-free product is particularly recommended for sensitive and dry skin.

Without it, your gel mimics allergies, redness and other reactions . In addition, some shower gels offer cleansing and moisturizing formulations!

Neo by Nature has created a shower gel made up of 99% natural ingredients and with three moisturizing and regenerating active ingredients: hyaluronic acid , aloe vera and inulin .

Here are some natural cleaning ingredients that replace soap : sodium cocoate and sodium cocoyl glutamate. Both are natural coconut-based cleansers.

CONCLUSION

So, before buying your hygiene product, check its composition carefully. Prefer soap-free products to preserve your hydrolipidic film and maintain the Ph balance of your skin.

In addition to this, a shower gel with active ingredients that moisturize will allow your skin to be healthier.
